Poisonous Weeds for Goats

Published by gerberink at 1:36 pm under Daily News Edit This

Goat

I had a previous post on Non Poisonous Weeds for Goats, so it only seemed appropriate that I should have a blog post on the poisonous ones.  The following weeds are poisonous to your goats:

  • Bracken Fern
  • Dock
  • Hemlock
  • Locoweed
  • Milkweed
  • Mountain Laurel
  • Oak Leaf
  • Rhubarb
  • Sorrel
  • Wilted Wild Cherry

Photos of these plants can be found on the Internet- just Google the plant name and the word “photo” after it.  In addition, these pictures can be found in most field guides to wild flowers and plants available at your local bookstore.

Signs of poisoning include the following:

  • Vomiting
  • Frothing at the mouth
  • Convulsions
  • Difficulty standing, or staggering

If you notice any of these symptoms, call your vet immediately.
